Happy Spring Equinox!

I don’t know about you, but for me, today feels like January 1, the real start to the New Year. Walking around La Condesa this morning with the birds chirping and the sun shining, I could feel change in the air. I could feel the heaviness of winter and the setbacks of the last two months shedding from my skin. For the first time in a long time, I feel a strong forward momentum, an action oriented energy that had been frustratingly absent for weeks. I hope you feel it too.

Did you know that pre-Roman times, the New Year was celebrated at the Spring Equinox? This makes perfect sense as the equinox ushers in longer days and a season associated with rebirth, renewal, and growth. In fact, the reason the Western calendar begins on Jan. 1 is due primarily to matters of practicality for the Roman Senate — it was when Roman consuls began their term, and it allowed them to get a head start on collecting taxes.

So, if you’re like me and had a slow start to the year, don’t beat yourself up about it. Let today be your fresh start, the beginning of a new cycle that is perfectly in tune with the rhythms of the natural world. Embody the youthful, vibrant Maiden energy of Spring and leave behind that which no longer serves you. Like a rosebud, a new, beautiful phase is ready to unfurl within you. Welcome it in and stretch towards the light. 💫

P.S. This equinox also starts alongside the new year of the Zodiac wheel, which begins with Aries and, according to astrologists, brings in a season of fiery passion, forward momentum, and aligned action. Just the kind of cosmic push I needed!
